March is Women’s History month. Prominent Women will be celebrated for all of their contributions to the world. The Women’s movements that took place in the 60’s and 70’s will be celebrated. Memories of the Suffragettes will be celebrated. Women like Katherine Johnson and Hilary Clinton will be celebrated. The foremost leaders of feminist and Womanist thought will be celebrated. But what about the “every day” Woman? Women who truthfully walk into purpose. Women who overcome challenges. What about the everyday problem solvers who may never get their names printed in a mass distributed textbook, but are still making HerStory? Women like your mother and great grandmother who are iconic because they taught, fought, learned, lived, loved, and sacrificed to make sure that you became who you are in this very second. What about these women?Read More

“Lemonade” is a masterpiece. Not just because Beyoncé consistently pushes herself to defy her limitations. Not because Queen Bey called on young black female entertainers to conjure up over an hour of Black girl magic. Not just because Bey is stunning and looks vicious in everything she puts on. Not even because the album is filled with so many one-liners and potent moments. “Lemonade” is a masterpiece because the visual and musical components of the project work together to tell one deeply powerful story..."Read More

This post is in honor of my Blogversary and a Contest will be announced at the end of the post...
It has been a little over a month since I started my YouTube channel and blog. For so long both feats felt impossible. Even in the age where DIY has become applicable to almost every task; I was petrified. What were people going to think about me? What if no one supports me? Why would anyone want to hear anything I have to say? I thought for sure that this would be another waste of time. I have tried so many different ventures in hopes of fulfilling the gaping void that I was interrupting ever thought that I formed.
Before I started blogging and vlogging I tried selling makeup. I also tried having multiple jobs and joining social clubs. I would be interested in these activities for a little while, but the love was not truly there. I always had a love for entertainment and the arts. Growing up I loved dancing, singing, and acting. I had a dream of being a triple threat on Broadway. I once wrote a newspaper article about myself. I was 15 and I was imagining that I was thirty. The article detailed all of my awards Tony’s, Golden Globes, Emmys, and Grammys. I even gave a shot out to my future husband and 4 kids. Back then, I honestly thought that thirty was old. I thought that by thirty I would have completed all of my greatest accomplishments. I came across the article that I wrote about myself a few weeks ago and laughed hysterically.
At 31 years of age, I have not accomplished a microcosm of what I once imagined for myself. I got too drawn into people pleasing and conformity. Entertainment has never been an acceptable career. in my family, to be deemed successful one must be a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher, or preacher. I was pushed into the teacher realm. I never liked being a teacher. I mean I know nothing. So how dare pretend to be an authority on any subject. I am forever learning and forever growing. The only thing that I have mastered is failing. I have mastered failing so much that I have no other options but to succeed. I deviated from my dream and allowed outside opinions to separate me from things that truly gave me joy. Sorry Mom, I will never be the school teacher that you wanted me to be. There is more than one way to teach. People can learn so many things that they can apply to their lives just by hearing about your life. The exchange that happens when two people connect can be greater than any experience had in the classroom. I love the exchange. The exchange of information, experience, and culture. Blogging and vlogging both allow me to express myself as well as interact and exchange with people.
So what exactly am I saying? I am not going to hop on a plane and start pursuing the life of a Broadway performer. But I am going to remember to “stay true to my dreams.” I am the only one that has to live my life. I am the only one that is accountable for my happy. I have found an outlet that is perfect for my skill set. So from now on I am pursuing things that make me feel fulfilled. I am only pursuing things that sharpen my skill set and allow me to be the creative that God created me to be. Blogging has given me that feeling. This is the first time that I have not felt stifled. This is the first time that work does not feel like work. To my
Believe in yourself first. Ferociously pursue your dreams. The rest of the world will catch up and they will believe too. And even if they don’t, it’s okay. Nobody can do you better than you!
Thanks for all the love as I transition into my “me” season. The momentum is going and I will not stop. Check out this video below for an update. Help me unlock this contest so I can give away free stuff and find out where I will be this week.
I walked away from the wrap party knowing that #BlackGirlMagic is more than a hashtag it is real! Stop believing what the media says. Stop believing what the talking heads and taste makers say. We can get along and we can do it effortlessly. In these moments of collaboration magical things happen. You have to tap into the source of the magic by surrounding yourself with other magical Black girls that vibrate on the same level. It may sound corny, and on some level it is. But honestly, if you do not open yourself to the possibility new things and new ideas you will never experience it. After being in that room I know that I can accomplish virtually anything.Read More

Racism is far more than basic prejudice and color discrimination. These biases are tools of racism but are not the nucleus of a system that disenfranchises people on legal, political, and socio-economic levels. Racism is putting bias and prejudice into laws, banks, schools, and science. Racism is manipulating logical fixtures to justify the ugliness of discrimination.Read More
